Welcome to the Winnipeg Folk Festival. This year our festival is filled with great delights - wonderful performances, free events, and lots of fun - as well as workshops, master classes and informative demonstrations.
It is a special year for us, one in which we have focused on the Winnipeg Folk Festival mission not only to bring nationally and internationally renowned artists into our midst, but to give back to the community through free events and community partnerships designed to showcase local artists.
The Winnipeg Folk Festival is set to enrapture festival lovers once again. Our venue will leave you fascinated, captivated and enthralled. With performances ranging from classic to contemporary, traditional to avant-garde, each act will inspire you to greater heights.
Winnipeg Folk Festival The first Winnipeg Folk Festival was held in 1974 in Birds Hill Park as a one-time celebration to mark Winnipeg's 100th anniversary. Featuring about 50 acts on four stages, this inaugural festival was free and attracted 22,000 over the three-day weekend. Already the event had its fans. It laid down roots in the park and has grown up to be one of the premier outdoor music festivals in the world. Today the operating budget is more than $2.3M, and attendance exceeds 55,000, including performers, volunteers and guests. A recent economic impact study indicates that the Winnipeg Folk Festival generates over $16M in Manitoba and over $14M in Winnipeg. Over 250 artists perform on seven stages around the Festival site throughout the weekend. These daytime stages give the artists opportunities to jam with each other, exchanging musical styles, stories and inspirations.
